Comments
Today we skied the main south-facing line in Summit Creek. On our way past Bryant Lake, we noticed a size 2 avalanche that had released in the previous 12 hours. We investigated the avalanche and found it had slid on the Feb 9th surface hoar/ facet layer. A wind lip above the avalanche failed and triggered the slide. Although the Jan 9th layer is isolated in its distribution throughout White Pass this was a reminder that the layer is still reactive in sheltered areas.
We then rode over to Summit Creek and started skinning up to the north side of Taiya. Coverage was low here with many exposed rocks. As we travelled onto the glacier, there was significantly more snow with 3 meters plus probed here. Snow on the north side of Taiya was non-wind effected. Looking into the south-facing line on Taiya there was extensive wind effect but the ski quality turned out be to decent. We observed lots of alpine terrain today and did not notice any other avalanches other than the size 2 at Bryant Lake.
