Comments

AST 2 Obs: Day was foggy with poor viz. In general snowpack is well settled, with average depths at treeline of 150-185cm. Hasty pits on a south asp, treeline(1400m) open meadow, showed various old surface hoar layers in the midpack, giving hard compression test results (resistant planar fracture character) down 75cm. On a N asp, similiar elevation (1400m) Extended Column Test gave an ECTP27 on surface hoar down 55cm on the Dec 25 layer. Ski cutting short steep slopes produced only sluffing in recent storm snow. Main freezing level in the storm last week was at 1250m, and at treeline there is 20cm of recent storm snow sitting on a thin melt freeze crust.
