Comments

Size 2 skier triggered windslab avalanche above treeline at 1500 m on north aspect of Paddy's E3. Slab propagated for 500 m from the point of trigger on the north aspect, contouring around the north-east alpine slope above the main drainage that extends below the road. The fracture line stepped up approximately 100 m on the north-east aspect, with run length ranging from 200 m on the north end of the fracture where skiers caught, ending on plateau above trees, to 400+ m on the northeast aspect, running into trees and gullys. Hard, think windslab atop the January 25 rain layer. Two skiers caught in center of slab, fracture line approximately 50 m above them on convexity, skied out to safety.
