Slab hunting in Allan Creek

Riding quality was:

We rode:

• Alpine slopes
• Convex slopes
• Steep slopes

The day was:

• Sunny
• Warm

Avalanche conditions

• Rapid temperature rise to near or above 0°C or wet surface snow.

Saw one small recent size 1 slab avalanche, most likely triggered today (see photo with rider). This was on a north aspect at 2200 m.

Other photos show a couple of older slabs, most likely naturals from the previous storm event 5 days ago or so.

Loose wet avalanche activity was evident on steep solar aspects.

Hard to find dry soft snow - there’s a little left on the highest north aspect slopes.
