Comments

We checked out Raven Lake today. Low snow and recent winds left some obstacles on the road, but we made it work #G3Bonesaw. A crust from last week's rain extends up to 1600 m (lower treeline). In the alpine winds were strong from the south. They blasted the ridgelines and left a firm windslab on northerly slopes. We found the Dec 9 surface hoar (SH) layer down about 70 cm and the Dec 1 SH down 90 cm at treeline. While neither layer was very reactive in tests today, we aren't ready to write it off yet! It seems to be transitioning into a classic low probability, high consequence scenario now that it has been through a few avalanche cycles
