A spectacular day in the alpine, we took advantage of the cold clear weather to poke our heads high up above treeline. Many large cornices overhanging windslabs in the alpine kept us away from steep convex wind affected slopes and far from overhead hazard. We rode deep powder in a north facing gully for about 1000 meters of Good Times (tm). We noticed lots of point releases on steep and sunny south to east facing slopes, and one older fracture line under a big headwall on a north facing ice field, possibly triggered by cornice fall.
