Mt Field attempt

Attempted to summit Mt Field. Had to break trail the entire way from the road, coverage in the alders was acceptable but made for some challenging decisions for our ascent track. Found surface hoar all the way to ~2400m, mostly small. Ski pen 15-25cm. A loose dry size 1 ran recently near the crux and didn't step down which gave us some confidence, but then a group of 2 passed us before the crux headwall and triggered a small soft windslab approx 10cm deep by 20m wide that didn't run far, this was just below the crux. We all decided to turn around here considering. Ski quality was great all the way down, boot top pow with support below. The coverage for the alders was better than expected for the descent. Cold calm and clear all day with the winds and clouds approaching in the afternoon.
