Comments

Skied at the Gorge today (road was plowed on Tuesday PM). Beautiful sunny morning that gradually got cloudy in the afternoon with surprisingly no wind. The new snow has settled to about 40 cm, but is still low density even at ridgetop. We did see a few signs of the storm snow starting to slab up on 1 of 4 runs. On that run, a ski cut at the top of steep roll triggered a 40 cm deep and 4 m wide slab that ran a few hundred metres through the trees entraining loose snow along the way until the slope mellowed out (we were surprised how far it ran). Further down on that run, a member of our party triggered another small slab on a lower angle planar slope. Overall excellent tree skiing, but wouldn't want to step out onto bigger terrain with this storm snow.
