Comments

Travel in Western Spearhead today from 1760m - 2400m on various aspects. Excellent viz today revealed that many of the windslabs from a few days ago had unloaded esp on steep alpine slopes near ridgecrests or ribs, most likely 72 hrs old or more.

On skier accidental observed on steep rib with N asp. Crossloaded slope released as a dry slab to sz 1.0 at 1970m. Cornices very large, rimed and sagging (see attached photo). One cornice release est 72 hrs old created a sz 2.5 in the 9th Hole off Decker.

Skiing on windbuff on windward asp and soft snow to 15cm pen on leeward asp to 45 degrees. Snow sluffing and entraining but no slab releases.

Minor solar effect on S asp moderated by convective cells. Surfaces faceting on polar alpine asp under temperature gradient over wind/temperature crust depending on elevation.
