Comments

We spent the day in McDermid Creek area where we found a generally good snowpack. There were two obvious crust layers the upper one we suspect was from New Year's rain crust and the lower one is the December 8 crust. The snowpack depths are variable in this area due to the wind effect but averaged 170cm at treeline. We had no significant results with our tests. We had no obvious signs of instability like recent avalanches, whumpfing or cracking while we toured up, winds were moving snow around in the alpine so we skied a steep treeline slope and enjoyed some good turns.
