Shames Backcountry

Height of snow at 1200m is approx 30cm. Height of snow at 1400m is approximately 130cm. profile dug at 1400m showed top 30cm is dry snow sitting on a rain soaked basal layer. Specific terrain features showed evidence of a full depth avalanche cycle occurring during one of these previous rain events with wet slab and loose avalanches up to size 3. We ski cut a size 1 avalanche immediately lee of ridge top where pockets of windslab exist. Other parties are reporting surface hoar being the interface of concern in regards to skier triggered avalanches but we could not verify this report.
