Comments

The high pressure established over the Yukon brought a welcome change in the weather this week with unlimited visibility but cold windy days. Today the temps were still cold (-28c) but the wind had died off making travel more pleasant. We reined in our objectives as the frigid temps still left little margin for error.

We didn’t see new natural activity today but still avoided steep alpine terrain that looked fat and wind loaded. There is evidence of some larger natural avalanches closer to powder valley & the north country that occurred during last week’s wind event. Cornices are still looking huge!

There’s a lot of wind effected terrain out there but it’s still possible to find powder in sheltered areas. The wind has redistributed snow on all aspects and elevations. We wanted to test small lower consequence slopes before stepping out into bigger terrain features.
