Comments

We skied multiple short laps on the West and Northwest facing slopes of Hector South. We didn't climb past 2350m, as the snow changed dramatically and became hard, crusty and wind affected, with some spots only a few centimeters deep. Below this point the snow was soft and provided some great powder turns through open trees. A quick informal test column at about 2250m gave away with mild to moderate force at about 60 cm down, and was a clean planar break showing facets. Likely the Nov 4th rain crust that's been mentioned. Some early season hazards on the return to the car, but all things considered it was a great outing.
