Comments
Spent the day climbing 2 ice routes in the david thompson - good luck and bad dreams (GLBD) /nothing but the breast (NBTB). The early am started around at -4 and to a high of 5c ish. Calm and very light winds.
No snow (or scattered cm here and there) on approach to both climbs. No concern yesterday reg. overhead hazard. Mostly bare rocks in the terrain above and below the climbs.
Looking to the bowls on mt Elliot above kittyhawk/elliot left hand showed more snow.
In general - very little snow in the area right now.
Climb conditions -
GLBD - dry ice climbed really well. Good protection. Minimal melt and we stayed 100% dry.
NTBT - approach pitches were soft/mostly dry climing as hero ice. Upper wi4 pitch - from a distance looks reasonable but upon closer inspection not good. We climbed half way up the pitch to inspect and then downclimbed- LOTS of running water behind the top and middle section of the climb/snice. Top of the pitch also doesnt look very secure. This pitch has taken a beating from the sun and needs cold again.
