Bow hut region

Map for Mountain Information Network report: Bow hut region

Comments

Supportive rain crust to bow hut which disappears above the hut on NE slopes below st nick. At higher elevation there is a thin wind slab on surface and beneath that about 30 cm of dry unconsolidated snow sitting on a well settled pack at this location. In wind exposed terrain and lee of ridge terrain in alpine this upper snow appears to have slabbed and we saw evidence of widespread slab avalanches with lengthy crowns on steep northern aspects and even on some more moderate terrain which would be highly wind affected.

Approach canyon is still good coverage as is bow lake. However off the track at these locations is isothermal mid afternoon.

Fans beneath steeper terrain closer to highway ravaged by what appears to be rain induced avalanches
