Comments

Saw shooting cracks while skiing in, cross loaded slopes above us. We were just in the valley bottom. Almost 2m of snow depth. A shovel test showed the upper layers of wind affected snow slid off very easily on a distinct interface. At 40 cm there was a layer of very large facets above those buried ice crusts. That popped off fairly easily during a hand shear test. It's always interesting digging into the snow to see what it looks like, especially if you were to venture onto steeper slopes.
