Comments

Poked up into Burstall Pass area today and found surprisingly good conditions once you got above the valley head wall. Lot's of wind affect above tree line, but good skiing to be had in sheltered areas. Ski pen 20cm over a supportive base. Dug a quick pit and found a sharp transition from the recent storm snow (4 fingers) to the previous sun/temperature affected base (1 finger to pencil). Had a hard CT27 sudden planer down 30cm on previous surface hoar over pencil hard crust. This will be a layer to watch as the season progresses. Stormy most of the day with 2-3 cm accumulation, strong winds and -5C mid day temps. The canyon is still flowing and there are many thin/rocky spots but actually not half bad if you're not on your best boards. The usual hoards of boot packers have churned up the trail in but it's still pretty skiable.
