- Whumpfing or drum-like sounds or shooting cracks.
Comments
Regular whumpfing (every 20 meters or so) suggested that the burried surface hoar layer was settling under skier's weight on this aspect. Fresh snow from the previous night was only starting to form a very loose slab, but shooting cracks were still propagating several meters ahead while putting in skin track. No releases. No other natural activity noted. Snow scouring on west aspects. Light powder deposited more heavily on east aspects.
