KoKo after the storm

The Koko Claims area received a meter of new snow from the recent atmospheric river. All that snow is now sitting on about 30 cm of old sugary facets and crusts. Our snowpack tests were failing near the base of the snowpack on top of the crusts. Visibility was in and out but there were signs of recent avalanches in the area, a couple of the south facing slide paths had run during the storm and the start zones look pretty filled in again so not a place we wanted to linger. Trail breaking was difficult with all the new unconsolidated snow on a weak base. We are still concerned about the potential for sleds or skis to trigger the deep instabilities in the snowpack so avoided playing in or under avalanche terrain today.
