Comments
Afternoon trip in Elkford to check on storm snow depths and wind effect. Sunny skies and we hit a high temperature of -13 midday. 20 - 30cm of recent storm snow remains soft in sheltered areas and more wind affected at upper elevations in open terrain. We found the Jan 17 weak layer of feathery surface hoar crystals in sheltered terrain down 35cm and we were still getting planer results in compression tests. There were no new avalanches observed in the area.
