Paint pots, south/east facing trees

Riding quality was:

Good

Snow conditions were:

• Crusty
• Powder
• Wind affected

We rode:

• Dense trees
• Open trees

We stayed away from:

• Alpine slopes
• Convex slopes

The day was:

• Sunny

Avalanche conditions

• Whumpfing or drum-like sounds or shooting cracks.

Observed some whumpfing and propagation easily triggered by one person on south facing slopes at and below TL. The collapse was approx 70 cm down on the decomposed January sun crust. Basal facets were 20 cm further below that. Sheer was pretty planar.

This weak layer was confined to south aspects and steeper slope angles.

Also found ~ 25 cm wind slabs in obvious places on south and east aspects.
