Kakwa - Make hay while the sun shines!

We spent the last few days in the Kakwa which was incredible. We experienced strong northerly wind and bone chilling overnight lows (-30 C) Friday and Saturday, and then it warmed up to -3 C on Sunday. We travelled far and wide but saw very little avalanche activity. There was a fair amount of cornice failure Sunday morning but it tapered off completely by the afternoon. The snow surface remained cool and dry, even on south facing slopes. We saw hundreds of south facing start zones, but we only saw a few small wind slabs from extreme terrain. The snowpack feels pretty well settled and strong, it's a great time for spring missions!
