Comments

Drove right through wind hammered Haines Pass (see photo) in hopes of finding something in Rainy Hollow not wind affected. Friends had found decent powder there on Friday, Dec. 30th. Alas, above 500 m elevation in open trees-treeline (west-facing) found the effects of the wind: extremely variable snow ranging from patches of pow, breakable crust to solid wind slab. Temperatures were warm from -4 to -1C during the day. Snowbanks were 4-5 ft in the Hollow area but only 1-2 feet in the pass(!)
