Spent the weekend at Asulkan Hut. We just missed the great skiing. Warm air came in Thursday night replacing the solid winter conditions earlier in the week. Friday and Saturday night, temperatures were around zero at the hut, rising to 7-9 in the day. Hardly below freezing even at the ridge top.
We skied various things above the cabin. Moist snow, supportive and pretty good skiing. Felt too warm to try our luck anywhere steeper without a decent freeze. No avalanches observed, except out of steep east facing features when the sun came out.
The sun was crazy hot and you'd start to see signs within minutes of an appearance though, for the most part, it was high cloud and convective systems.
There was a breakable freeze crust formed in the mornings. Things were locked down but likely not for long with the weak freeze.
Coverage was really good. The skiing looked really good had it stayed cool for a couple more days.
