Had a look and a short tour up cabin runs at Quartz Creek.
Up to 100 cm base at 2240 m south facing exposed slope. 30 degrees. No whumpfs or cracks when travelling. You can feel the Halloween rain crust walking and riding.
Quick snowpack breakdown:
-1 cm thick wind crust down 5 cm. There are many new trees down to highlight this wind event
-20 cm down begins a 5-8 cm rain crust from around Halloween. It rained to the top here.
- 40 to 45 cm down there are a couple more 1 cm melt freeze crusts.
-The Lower 55 cm was all 1F and seemed well consolidated. No large basal facets to report.
Tests
-Ct10 resistant planer down 30 cm below Halloween rain crust
-Ct15 and ct17 resistant planet down 40-45 on smaller crusts.
Lots of early season hazards out there still hit you can make your way around and do some careful riding without hitting rocks. The rain crust general keeps you supported so you are not punching through it with sleds or skis.
