Comments

We dug out a pit for an a Extended Column Test on a north aspect around 2200m.

We found around 1.5 meters of snow with around 20 cm of fresh loose powder on top of a crust.

There were two layers we noticed, one crusty later at 20 cm that did not fail during ECT test. Another layer 70 cm down that failed in 1/3 of our ECT tests near the end of the test, and did not fail at all in the other two tests.

The top 20 cm was prone to sluffing while we skied. That top layer was still light and loose (as of Sat @2:00 pm) and didn’t present us with any issues.
