Comments
We left the Plot late at around 1000. Intention was to scope out Thar N Colouir and ski tomorrow if in shape.
Pronounced Temperature inversion, with inversion line around 1700m last night. Alpine slopes with no refreeze.
Numerous wet-loose avalanches observed on S/SW aspects at TL on slopes with exposed rock bands. Largest in imagine 1, sz 1.5.
Midday temps 3.2c.
Sustained moderate SW winds all day. Gusting to strong. Boot pen <3cm. With large wind shift with outflow winds every open slope at all elevation bands is carrying a stiff windslab with variable depth.
Numerous easy hand shears whilst booting into Thar N showed planar fractures along isolated column. As we neared the top of the fan wind slab depths were 15cm (Pencil) overlying 5cm of unconsolidated snow from previous storm which was sitting on generally well-settled snow. We elected to pull the plug and retreat to the lake.
