Went to the 4th (W from the road) major S facing avalanche path up Chickadee valley on Friday. The snowpack was thin and hollow, <1m at the run out zone, 15cm powder on 25 cm consolidated snow on top of ~30cm-40cm rotten facets. As we went up the side, hoping the snowpack would thicken, the snow turned from breakable-and-unsupportive into smaller whoomphs and then into larger whoomphs (>5m) and shooting cracks. We bailed out after 80m. The first (easternmost) avalanche path was heavily tracked but we didn’t check it out.
