Comments
Snow was still largely unaffected by wind below treeline, but as we travelled toward treeline the wind transport was quite substantial. A hard wind slab (~15cm) was underlain by faceted snow in exposed areas, the snow mostly transported away, but there were some deposits around exposed trees. Travelling was challenging - the hard slab was so hard that kicking steps was easier than skinning on steeper sections and we ended up turning around; the ski down through the variable snow included side slipping and survival skiing through breakable crust in places.
