Comments
Snow profiles from 2550m (Alp), HS: 175cm (150cm avg). New snow over layered buried windslabs. Moderate, resistant shears down 10, 12, and 23cm. No significant slab, and no other signs of instability. Found great skiing top to bottom.
Tree line profile at 2100m, HS: 100cm. No compression test results. Overall weak snowpack, but supportive under skis, not so much underfoot.
Followed summer trail out and the snowpack is very weak off the track. We were very cautious on decent, worried about hidden hazards like downed trees or vegetation that might hook a ski, or worse. Herculean effort to whom ever pushed it through to treeline from the parking lot, I’m guessing it was a Klettl Fairy? It’s since had a couple groups on it so it should set-up for the rest of the season. Beautiful day, -15 to -10, light consistent W-SW breeze.
