Comments
Checking out new cutblock for potential for some quick yo-yo skiing close to home with short approach. Easy access, cut block offers nice skiing so long as low elevation conditions remain cold and without crust on slope around 35 to 40 degrees and about 150m vertical.
Near the top left side of the bloc, a switchback turn from our trail breaker released an initial slab with some hang fire remaining above. An extra step brought down hangfire with a propagation about three to four times as wide and around the southern side of blunt ridge. It only slid on a pocket of close to 45 degree slope and slowed to a stop 30 meters lower on only slightly shallower angle terrain. Second break extended about 40 meters wide and slid down about 30-35meters. Crown was around 35 to 40 cm thick soft wind slab on facettes/surface hoar.
