Comments

Journeyman Peak from Journeyman Lodge. Conditions from the lodge up until about 1750m were outstanding - soft deep powder, and filled enough for good runs. Temp was very cold (-25 C at 1400m, and likely sub -30 in the alpine), but wind was low. Above 1750m, we hit a hard, dense wind slab. Snow was very wind-affected, and all previous tracks had been blown away. Tons of exposed rock on the way to the peak still (and lots just an inch below the surface), mixed with pillowy, loose pockets. Turned around about 100m shy of the peak due to wind slab. A small jump test caused a 1m long slab about 6 inches thick to easily break free and slide.
