Comments
Today we sledded up the Microwave to see how high yesterdays rain event extended. We found rain runnels into the alpine and we suspect it rained up to 2000m in locations. There was a trace of new snow in the alpine that must have fallen as temperatures cooled at the end of yesterdays storm. This snow was being blown around by moderate to strong W winds. Overall, riding conditions were crunchy to very crunchy. There is a ten centimeter thick rain crust found at the surface. In some areas this crust is robust and supports boots/sleds, in others it is breakable. South facing terrain below treeline warmed throughout the day today with the surface snow becoming moist. We expect this to freeze into a solid crust tonight as temperatures again drop below freezing.
