Comments
Good day climbing Hector, today was about the ascent instead of the decent. Mainly because the snow quality is horrible for skiing, but these hard wind board surfaces made for great travel going up. On most parts on the glacier there is only 120 cm of snow. Boot packing to the summit required a bit of navigation around small pockets of wind slabs/effect. Due to the lack of snow on Hector this year we were using crampons and an ice axes for the last 300m. Didn’t attempt the summit block as we didn’t have the appropriate gear for it.
