Gin peak

Riding quality was:

Snow conditions were:

• Deep powder

We rode:

• Alpine slopes
• Dense trees
• Mellow slopes
• Open trees

We stayed away from:

• Convex slopes
• Steep slopes
• Sunny slopes

The day was:

• Sunny
• Warm

Avalanche conditions

• 30cm + of new snow, or significant drifting, or rain in the last 48 hours.
• Rapid temperature rise to near or above 0°C or wet surface snow.

Day tour to Gin peak. Started at 9 am from Alexander Falls carpark and hiked up the hanging lake trail. Hiked for ~30 mins on the hanging lake trail before enough we made it to snow but the Deep & wet conditions made it difficult so we boot packed to hanging lake.

No observed movement throughout the day but a lot of recent activity from the previous storm cycle. Wet loose and pinwheeling observed on all aspects so with the warming weather and considerable avy danger we decided to stick to mellow slopes. Good skiing (albeit heavy) on Northerly aspects with mashed potato on everything else. A great way to start the weekend!
