A mix of sun and cloud with isolated rain showers/alpine flurries is forecast on Saturday as a weak ridge of high pressure stabilizes the atmosphere.

The exception is scattered to numerous showers/alpine flurries possible for the eastern Fraser Valley giving patchy 5-10 mm of water equivalent.

A cold upper trough swings through the interior on Saturday generating scattered to numerous rain showers/alpine flurries from the southern Chilcotins/Cascades to the B.C.-AB border.

A risk of a thunderstorm is forecast in the afternoon.

Precipitation amounts will be patchy and highly variable. Freezing levels peak between 1500-1800 m except up to 2000 m for the southern Rockies.

Flurries continue with a couple cm accumulation possible. Moderate to strong northeast outflow winds.

Forecast for Sunday: 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. PDT

NW ranges: A Pacific frontal system approaches the North Coast and brings periods of rain/alpine snow and strong southwesterly ridgetop winds to the northwest ranges. Freezing levels rise from 800 m to near 1400 m in the afternoon. Precipitation amounts reaching 25 mm can be expected over southern sections of the NW coastal ranges.

SW ranges: Expect a mix of sun and cloud with dry conditions under the ridge of high pressure. 

Lingering instability generates a few flurries over the Purcells and South Rockies in the morning. The ridge of high pressure building over southern BC brings a drying and clearing trend to most interior regions.

Freezing levels rising to near 1800m in the afternoon.

The full force of the incoming frontal system arrives on Sunday. Heavier precipitation especially later in the day but at the same time freezing levels are rising so snow accumulation will be limited by the wet nature of the snow. QPF up to 15 mm, with snow accumulation 5 to 10 cm. Moderate to strong south winds.

On Monday, the frontal system moves onshore spreading moderate precipitation from the North Coast to northern sections of the South Coast. Freezing levels range from 1000-1500m over the north to 2000-2500m over the south. Strong west to southwest ridgetop winds will also accompany this system

Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure builds over the BC coast bringing a general drying and clearing trend. Over the northwest ranges, a few light showers linger in an onshore flow.

As the frontal system pushes into interior BC, moderate precipitation and moderate to strong southwesterly ridgetop winds will spread across central and northern interior ranges Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning. Freezing levels will rise to 1800-2500m Monday afternoon.

Precipitation will ease Tuesday afternoon as a ridge of high pressure builds into southern BC. Freezing levels range from 1300-1800m north of the South Columbia range to 2000-2500m over the south.

For Monday and Tuesday, onshore flow persists. Early on Monday, the cold front passes through and freezing levels fall. 2 to 5 cm snow accumulation. Moderate south winds.

The cold upper trough continues to push eastward across the province and spreads convective flurries to most of the interior ranges today.

On Sunday, the weather pattern changes as a ridge of high pressure builds over southern BC leading to a drying and clearing trend. Meanwhile, a Pacific frontal system approaches northwestern BC bringing moderate precipitation and strong ridgetop winds to the region.
