A ridge of high pressure will clear up the few flurries and low clouds today.

A few flurries will ease off today as a ridge of high pressure stabilizes the atmosphere. Valley clouds and fog will remain.

Forecast for Tonight - 4 p.m to 4 a.m PST:

Clear skies over the south coast will introduce high freezing levels this afternoon and onwards. The highest freezing levels will be over Vancouver Island, near 2500 to 2700 metres. 

A frontal system moving to Yukon will brush through the north coast ranges and bring snow starting tonight. Snowfall amounts will remain low, 5cm or less, with the bulk of the system heading to Yukon. 

Valley clouds and fog will remain over the BC interior. 

Another frontal system approaches this afternoon with snow and blowing snow. Freezing levels will rise to 800 metres and ridgetop winds will rise to southerly extreme. Snowfall accumulations in the 15 cm range.

Forecast for Monday - 4 a.m to 4 p.m PST:

Snow continues over the north coast ranges on Monday and intensifies Monday night to Tuesday. 

Freezing levels will remain elevated over the south coast. There may be an above-freezing layer if the surface temperatures are below zero due to overnight cooling, 

Valley clouds and fog will remain over the BC southern interior. 

Snow will start to fall over the Cariboo Mountains and the North Rockies starting Monday night. 

Strong southerly ridgetop winds continue on Monday in between weather systems. Freezing levels peak near 1,000 metres Monday morning and fall to 600 metres Monday afternoon. They will rise to 1,200 metres Monday night as yet another frontal system moves into the area. Flurries throughout the day on Monday with light accumulations. Snow will begin in earnest Monday night as the frontal system approaches with heavier snowfall accumulation than today.

The heaviest snow will accumulate over the north coast ranges on Tuesday. As the system stalls over central BC, snow will also spread to the inland sections: Northwest, North Rockies, and the Cariboo Mountains.

A ridge of high pressure holds over southern BC until Wednesday. Valley clouds and fog in the interior may gradually diminish towards mid-week. Freezing levels are expected to remain elevated over the south coast. 

Snow on Tuesday with moderate accumulation. Freezing levels fall to the valley bottom throughout the day on Tuesday in the wake of the frontal system. Strong southerly ridgetop winds will ease Tuesday night.

A brief reprieve on Wednesday with clouds, fog and light winds under a ridge of high pressure. A weaker system will approach the Gulf of Alaska Wednesday night and may bring some snow into the area but there aren’t strong agreements amongst the weather models as to the northern extent of the low pressure track. Outflow winds will develop but their strength will also be dependent on the proximity of the low.

A frontal system is moving to Yukon today, bringing snow and extreme ridgetop winds. 

The subsequent systems will move slightly south, to central BC. A strong ridge of high pressure in southern BC will keep the precipitation in northern BC. 

Freezing levels will remain elevated over the south coast from this afternoon to Wednesday.
