Still Rebuilding the Snowpack
Snow for the southern half of the province and the Alberta Rockies as a low moves through B.C. today. A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will strengthen and help establish a ridge of high pressure across the Yukon and B.C. interior by Monday. This will aid in vacating the low pressure system out of southern B.C. on Monday into Alberta.
As the arctic front associated with the leading edge of the cold air pushes south across the province, flurries will develop along the leading edge as the cold air scours out the moisture. The low in Alberta continues its trek into Saskatchewan but a cold front trailing behind will result in upslope flow across the Alberta Rockies on Tuesday.
Clear and dry for Wednesday as the arctic ridge is firmly in place over B.C. and the Yukon. Outflow winds will be present across coastal inlets and valleys.
An upper trough over Vancouver Island this morning will move across the B.C. interior with another shortwave upper trough following in quick succession tonight. These two features will bring snow to the mountains in southern B.C.
A large upper trough off the Aleutians will deepen and amplify an upper ridge downstream over the eastern Pacific on Monday. This will start to dry out the coastal and northern interior ranges for Monday. An upper trough sliding down the Rockies late Monday into Tuesday will aid in snow production over the Lizard ranges and southern Rockies.
The upper ridge will peak in intensity on Wednesay, centred over northwestern B.C. with its effects felt across the entire region.
