Active Weather Continues Over Coastal Sections

Active weather continues over the BC coast with a parade of storms moving onshore, while a ridge of high pressure anchors over interior BC and prevents any significant precipitation from impacting the Rockies. This weather pattern is expected to hold until the weekend.

On Tuesday, precipitation will gradually taper off across southern half of BC and strong southwest ridgetop winds will ease in the wake of a departing low pressure system. Moderate precipitation returns to the BC coast Tuesday night through Wednesday as the next system approaches. Strong to extreme southerly ridgetop winds are expected to develop across much of the province.

The 500 mb animation shows an upper trough pushing northeast across BC and Yukon today. An upper ridge becomes amplified over BC tonight while a prominent upper low rotates in the Gulf of Alaska. This pattern allows a strong south to southwest upper steering flow to set up over the BC coast for all the approaching impulses. On the other hand, the upper ridge maintains mainly dry conditions over interior regions. This pattern continues through Friday.
