Snow over the Northwest and dry over the rest

Snowy and windy conditions are expected mainly over the northwestern sections including White Passs and the Northwest ranges today. A ridge of high pressure will maintain dry conditions over the rest of the province.

On Wednesday, the ridge breaks down and a front slides down the coast bringing widespread strong southwesterly ridgetop winds across the region and moderate precipitation to the south coast.

The 500mb animation above shows the upper ridge over eastern BC shifting eastward and the broad upper trough over the Gulf of Alaska digs offshore. This results in a southwesterly upper flow across BC that continues through Wednesday and spreads moisture across most regions. On Thursday, an upper ridge builds over northern BC and Yukon while a minor upper trough moves eastward across southern BC. On Friday, another prominent upper trough moves into Yukon and northern BC bringing another band of Pacific moisture in a southwesterly flow.
