Mountain Weather Forecast

Winter comes to the South Coast on Tuesday

A arctic ridge over the northern BC Interior this morning will continue to build southwards today bringing cold to dry air to all interior regions by early Tuesday morning. Today's maximum temperatures over most interior locations will be about 5 to 10C colder than normal while central and northern locations will see daytime highs close to 15C below normal on Tuesday. The arctic ridge, combined with a surface trough along the outer BC coast, is generating moderate to strong outflow winds through mainland inlets giving dry and clear conditions to most coastal locations.

On Tuesday, a low pressure centre to the west of Haida Gwaii will move southeastward along the BC coast and deepen rapidly. The low will lie off northwest Vancouver Island by Tuesday afternoon with moisture ahead of the low giving snow to the south coast. The BC interior should remain dry until the late Tuesday afternoon when increasing clouds will bring snow to the southwestern regions.

A ridge of high pressure over Yukon from today into Tuesday is bringing cold and dry conditions to the territory. The main exception will be the southeast Yukon, near Watson Lake, which will see mainly cloudy skies and scattered flurries persisting until Tuesday morning.
