An large scale and intense Pacific frontal system will arrive over the Northwest Coast tonight then the south coast Friday morning bringing heavy snow or rain and strong winds. With cooler air in place over most of BC, freezing levels will be mainly at valley bottoms. The exception will be South coast and Vancouver Island mountain ranges where freezing levels will hover around 500m.

The 500 mb animation shows an unstable northwesterly flow with embedded shortwaves. A weak transient upper ridge builds late Thursday ahead of a large scale Pacific front. As the front arrives, the upper flow will shift to westerly and intensify as the storm originates from the Alaskan Panhandle. The strong westerly flow persists through the weekend.
