Wet Weekend

A strong moisture laden southwesterly flow is expected to continue bringing showers to the BC coast for today. The precipitation intensity is expected to strength over the southern parts of Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland tonight bringing generally 10 to 20mm of rain with local amounts up to 40mm possible. Due to the instability, a risk of thunderstorms exist throughout the coast and into the central and southern interior.

The 500mb flow shows a broad upper trough swinging into the coast for today destabilizing the atmosphere. As the upper trough weakens and pushes further east into the Prairies, an onshore flow pattern will persist over the coast for much on Sunday keeping showers for the province. A brief weak period of ridging may return for the south Monday to Tuesday and bring a mix of sun and cloud before another large upper trough moves in again for Tuesday onward bringing more rain for BC.
