This week will bring a parade of storms across the region. With freezing levels remaining mainly near valley bottom (except for the south coast where it will be near 1000 metres) this means several rounds of snow across many mountain ranges.
Today will see some unsettled onshore flow maintaining flurries over the coastal ranges, with some cloud and isolated flurries for the interior.
The first of the upcoming storms is set to arrive tonight. Moderate to heavy snow is expected across the coastal ranges by Tuesday morning, with light to moderate snow moving into the interior late in the day. Strong southerly alpine winds are also expected over the coastal ranges.
Another system will approach the south coast ranges Wednesday night, with moderate snow moving first across the south coast and then to the Cariboo through the Purcells into Thursday morning. A brief break comes behind the system on Thursday, but by then the next low is already setting up to move onto the Northwest Coast late Thursday night and Friday.
As these lows move across the Rockies, strong ridgetop winds are expected over the Alberta Rockies.
The 500 mb animation shows a series of fast moving upper troughs moving across BC. These are associated with the parade of lows moving across the region this week. On Thursday, a transient upper ridge helps to dry things out briefly. But there will be little in the way of a break from these systems this week.
