Sad News from Avalanche Canada and the Avalanche Canada Foundation

Wife of ACF board member Adam Campbell has died

It is with great sadness that we inform you about the death of a member of our Avalanche Canada community. Laura Kosakoski was caught in an avalanche in Banff National Park on Friday, Jan 10, and died in Calgary’s Foothills Hospital the next day.

Laura’s husband, Adam Campbell, is a member of the board of directors for the Avalanche Canada Foundation. Adam says, “Laura was the most incredible woman—loving, compassionate, curious, passionate and absolutely beautiful. Laura has been my rock, and has shown me that true beauty, love and joy can be found in even the most trying of circumstances. That spirit defined her, and we’re keeping that close to our hearts today. Laura touched so many lives, and there are no words to express how deeply she will be missed.

We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who assisted with the rescue efforts including STARS, the Canmore Rescue Helicopter, the Parks Canada public safety team, and the Foothills Medical Centre staff.

At this time we’re stepping back to grieve together as a family and thank you for respecting our privacy as we try to come to terms with this loss.”

This news strikes our tight-knit community hard and there are no easy words at this time. Please join us in sending love and strength to Adam for today, and the days ahead.
