Comments
We arrived to find 10cm of fresh snow over a ton of old tracks at the Torpy today so we decided to head west of the saddle to Torpy Mountain. It was -20 but that didn’t matter, we had plenty of stucks setting a trail through the trees to keep us warm. We broke out into the alpine and found wind slabs under the new snow on southerly aspects. We didn’t see any shooting cracks but did have a notable whumpf while testing a small, wind loaded slope. We decided to be conservative in alpine terrain and, after a bit of mellow riding, headed back to more sheltered areas. Here we were rewarded for our hard work with over the head powder! A great day for some cold smoke!
