Comments
Ski tour up to the ridge line above the main couloir on blue bird, but chilly day. 2-3 cm hoar frost in valley bottom. Incredible 30-40 cm of powder above ~1300-1400 m. Lower out-track was "dust on crust", but altogether quite good conditions for Sugarbowl. Some small failures on steeper slopes, but the failures were all low-density new snow and had very minimal propagation. In short, amazing day at Sugarbowl!
Snow Geek stuff below:
Pit at 1620 m on N aspect, 25 deg slope, open trees. HS was 310 cm, our pit went down ~130 cm. Quite stable results: CTM13 (resistant planar) down 20 cm, CTH24 (BKN - Non Planar failure) down 25cm and 50cm. ECTX - no result.
Top of pit at 135 cm
