Comments
Day 3 of AST 2 with a big day on many aspects of Taiya. We were able to step out today with great weather and get onto some big alpine features. We rode steep southern couloirs and gullies and steep north facing bowls. Snow conditions in all sheltered features was quite good regardless of aspect. We were able to see a lot of terrain and observed only one new (ish) size 2 wind slab out of a cross loaded alpine gully. Estimated at least 24hrs old. There was wind slab present in our run entries but it was unreactive to ski cutting. The sun was providing some warmth on the long south boot pack but cold air temps kept surface snow dry and there wasn't even much activity out of steep rock walls overhead. Pretty much a perfect day in the mountains.
