Amazing day up on Elk mountain! Little to no wind effect observed, just 80cm of delicious right side up pow cake as sweet as Christmas cookies.
We had mostly unremarkable results in our snowpack tests, with a few easy failures in upper storm snow interfaces. We did have hard test results in faceted snow above the thick crust that sits at the bottom of the snowpack.
We think this layer could have potential to be triggered in shallow, rocky zones near ridge tops, mainly in places where the crust above it isn’t supportive to the weight of a person or machine.
