Comments

Calm, clear, blue skies. No recent fresh snow. -25C at vehicle in morning, warmed up quick to -5 in alpine by 1pm. We made careful terrain selection along the ridge up from Fraser to take in the views from Halcyon. Lots of evidence of wind effect in alpine all aspects. Surface is a mix of soft in trees, sun/wind crust and sasturgi, and rime up high. Quick test in upper snowpack checking for wind slab at 1500m on a 25 deg SW slope with 270cm HS we found ECTN22 RP down 25cm with a dense pencil hard windslab on 1F interface. We didn’t see any fresh natural avalanche activity while touring.

From road more inland - recent solar effect is visible with small point releases on steep rocky outcrops and a few naturals viewed on West slopes across far side of Tushi lake.
